An Ordinance Defining Treason Against the State

Be it ordained by this Convention, and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the same, as follows: Treason against the State of North Carolina, shall consist only in levying war against her, or in adhering to her enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same over act, or confession in open court.
